Hello, my name is Penny, I’m from upstate NY and am 56 years old. I lived with my parents until the age of 7. I was the victim of harsh physical abuse and was taken away and placed in foster homes. I was raped by one of my foster parent’s son. I got into drugs and alcohol but I managed to complete high school, get a job and a place of my own. When I turned 16 I met a girl who I became best friends with and got intimate with. After finishing high school we got an apartment in the same building and remained together for 8 years. One night we got into an argument and I left and went to a friend’s house and got higher than ever. I woke up in a jail cell being told I was charged with murder and that my girlfriend had been stabbed and bled to death. I spent the next 31 years of my life in prison.
One of the founders of the Home came to visit me and for the next 28 years she came once a month. I was released from prison in January 2012 and asked to be paroled to the Home. Since being here I have learned a lot through devotions, the learning center and Bible studies. I feel the presence of the Lord wherever I go here and I realize that I was never alone. I plan on doing the 12 month program and fulfilling my parole stipulations so I can be completely free to live a new life in Christ. I have a dream of working at an orphanage. I would also like to work with teenagers by sharing my testimony and letting them know the road I traveled is not for them.
The scripture I leave you with is 1 Corinthians 10:13:
“No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.”
