“Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king’s horses and all the king’s men
Couldn’t put Humpty together again”
This very familiar nursery rhyme has probably been heard by all people at some point in their life. And we say it with humor and fun and sing in to our children. In a nursery rhyme it’s cute – but in real life when someone falls and their life is shattered it is tragic and devastating.
At the Walter Hoving Home, we see women come into our program who have fallen down and their lives our shattered. Their hope has been crushed and they can’t see a way out or a different way but they come here and it is amazing to watch the transformation as God begins to restore hope and they have a glimpse of their life looking different. With God – everything can change! Luke 1:37 is the first verse that our women memorize – “For nothing is impossible with God” and we truly believe that truth. God can do all things that need to be done in the lives of our women. My life was changed when I came into a relationship with Jesus Christ – I once was lost but now I am found. I remember coming into the program and having no hope but then people started loving me and believing that God could do something in my life and then a miracle started to happen – after years of hopelessness in my addiction – I started to believe I could be different. And now I have the privilege of believing for others in the rubble of their broken life.
